Star Wars and food

We went to the park again today. It’s been so beautiful outside, and really wonderful to consistently take the boys out for play dates. Jacob has so much fun with his little friend Ezekiel, who he calls Zeek. They love to run and climb all over the playground pretending to be Jedi Nights, shooting robots and droids. Star Wars is sooo exciting for us right now! It’s pretty cute! The best part of the play date for me is that I get to be active! First, before the playground, us mommies get to walk and use the work-out area. I’m so happy to be getting back onto a regular work-out schedule. On our non-park days, the boys and I walk by our house, and I do my workout in the living room. Did I mention how happy I am to have a routine again!!? I feel so much better when I take the time to exercise.

Jordan got his first skinned knee of the year this morning, and was such a brave guy. We were taking Corky, our dog, for a short walk down to the end of our street, and he slipped on some rocks onto his knees. (just got a very small boo-boo) He only cried until I picked him up, and I don’t think he even realized that his knee was bleeding until Jacob kept insisting that he needed a band-aid. We all know that only band-aids (and kisses) can make owies better! Jacob was more traumatized by the fall than Jordan was, but I do love when he’s concerned about his baby brother.

So, getting my kiddos (really just one of my kiddos) to eat has been an ongoing battle for a while. Jacob will load himself up if we are eating mac and cheese, chili mac, or dinosaur chicken… most other things are not very desirable to him. Well that’s not true, there are a few other things he likes too. Snacks, (crackers, goldfish, apples, maybe some string cheese) and on good days he will eat a sandwich, sometimes other pasta dishes. The biggest battle with him is breakfast! Now, I can defiantly understand if he needs to wake up a little more before eating, but that’s not really the case with him. I know, because after he has refused his breakfast, and I have given up on the battle, he wants some snacks… so, I am trying to think of creative ways to get him to eat. We have a kids cook book that was given to us for Christmas. I really love it! It’s a Goose Berry Patch book called “Kids in the kitchen – Year ’round Fun” . It has all different kinds of easy, kid friendly ideas for all different times of the year. Jacob found a sandwich with a face made out of food, and wanted to try it. I made it that day, and he ate the whole thing! I improvised the face ingredients, but he thought is was really fun, and he was actually excited to eat it. I tried the same thing for breakfast this morning, and was not quite as successful. He ate the “face” off his pancake then decided that he was “all done”! It was a bit of a struggle, but I at least got him to finish about half of it… oh well. I know he’s not going to starve, but I really wish he would eat more, at least so we don’t waste food. On the flip side, and a happier note, Jordan eats everything!!

I’m going to a financial success seminar this weekend without kids, or a husband, (I’m pretty excited) so maybe my next post will be about that… we’ll see?

A new era of blogging for the Fink family

Well, I’ve been inspired by a friend of mine to start using our blog. For me, I hope to use this as a sort of diary. I’ll be writing about the simple things that happen throughout my day, the wonders of watching my two little boys grow, and my personal journey as a mom, wife and a woman trying to find my own place in the world.

Since this is a new start for our family blog, (that I am kinda taking over as my own personal blog, even if you still see my husbands posts now and then) I suppose I will start with a little background on myself. I was born and raised in San Diego, grew into an adult, (I’m sure details of my life growing up will pop up enough in the future) and am now married with two wonderful, very active little boys. I just turned 31 years old this February, I lost 40 pounds this last year, I love to cook and bake, and really love when I get to go on a date with my husband Joseph. Right now we live right by Lake Cuyamaca in my mom’s house. I am able to be a stay at home mommy for my boys, and really do love it. I really feel that some positive changes are coming our way this year. I’m so excited to find out what God has in store for us. That is why this is the perfect time for me to really start recording our life.

now for the life part: I’ll start with yesterday… We went to Sea World!! For all of our birthdays this year, my mom got us annual Sea World passes! I have been so excited to go, and yesterday we finally went! I LOVE theme parks!! It was so fun to watch my boys, Jacob and Jordan experience something new. Of course, they liked Elmo’s play land (or whatever it’s called) the best. I think we could have spent all day there and they would have been happy boys. Understandable… Jacob is three and a half, and Jordan is 20 month old. We got to see the pet show, and the Shamu show, 3 different aquariums, the tide pools, sharks and penguins. When we finally left the park, Jordan fell asleep before we even left the parking lot… it was so cute, he fell asleep while drinking water out of his straw cup. Today is Sunday, and we are having a wonderfully lazy day at home. We usually go to Church (all the way in Poway) on Sundays, but opted for a down day here. I get to do laundry, and Joseph gets to watch more March Madness. (I’m pretty sure he’s a happy hubby today) And, I’m so excited, we get to go to dinner tonight, as a family to a friends house! I met a fabulous woman at the park a couple of weeks ago, and I really like her! She has a boy Jacob’s age, and a baby girl, who is so sweet. I’m so happy our husbands get to meet tonight… and that I don’t have to cook. (even though I love to cook, I also really love a break!)

I sure hope I can keep this up. I’ve always wanted to be one of those women who keep track of all the things their kids do. For me, I think a blog is the best way to do that. Better late then never, right?

The Big Snow this Winter

I wouldn’t say that we had many storms of snow this season, but we sure had a big one (for San Diego County!) this weekend!

Navy 100th Anniversary of Flight

Our family spent three hours in traffic to get to this air show and temporary flight museum at the Coronado Air Station. We were out of our car in time to see the finale fly-over (30 planes in the strike group from the U.S.S. Reagan aircraft carrier), and then spent most of our time looking at all the planes and helicopters parked on site. Here are a couple photos of the boys and Daddy there!
